The international career of Cristiano dos Santos Junior – the 14-year-old son of legend Cristiano Ronaldo – officially began yesterday in Croatia.
The son of the highest goal scorer in the history of the Portuguese national team made his debut for the country’s youth team at a tournament in Croatia. Ronaldo’s son entered the game in the 53rd minute (the match was played in two 40-minute halves).
The young Portuguese team defeated Japan with a score of 4:1 in Sveti Martin na Muri, a town in the far north of Croatia, near the border with Slovenia and Hungary.
The “Vlatko Markovic” tournament traditionally brings together the most talented young footballers from around the world, and this year is no different. Alongside the host team, Portugal, and Japan, participants include Greece, England, Switzerland, France, and Romania.
Ronaldo Junior was born on June 17th, 2010, in California and also holds United States (U.S.) citizenship. He currently plays for the youth team of the Al-Nassr club, where his father also plays.
After the match, Cristiano Ronaldo himself posted on Instagram.
“Congratulations on your debut for Portugal, son. I am very proud of you.”
Alongside Ronaldo Junior, Maria Dolores dos Santos Aveiro, his grandmother and Cristiano Ronaldo‘s mother, also traveled to Croatia.
