The Russian consulate in Marseille, France, was attacked with a Molotov cocktail early Monday, with no reported casualties.

The incident occurred just before 8 a.m. local time on Avenue Ambroise-Pare, a street home to many foreign consulates, BFMTV reported.

Two Molotov cocktails were thrown into the courtyard of the consulate, but fortunately no damage or injuries were reported, media outlets reported, citing police sources.

The Russian consulate, which is among several diplomatic missions, was the target of the early morning attack.

An investigation into the motives for the attack is underway.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova confirmed that there had been an explosion at the Russian consulate in Marseille, describing it as a potential terrorist attack.

Moscow is calling on France to thoroughly investigate the incident and increase security at Russian diplomatic missions, she said, AA writes.
