anton-baranov---photoThe official ceremony and a concert by the guitarist Anton Baranov from Russia opened last nights Sarajevo International Guitar Festival at the B&H House of Armed Forces. The festival is organized as part of the program of marking the day of Sarajevo.

During the festival at the Music Academy in Sarajevo, students from Austria, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Mexico, Montenegro, Serbia, Croatia and B&H will have the chance to improve their knowledge and skills through courses and workshops by excellent lecturers and professors from Vienna, Berlin, Edinburgh and Krakow.

During the day, an international competition will be organized in six categories from ages 13 to 27. In the competition part, there will be participants from 13 countries in the world.

Director of the Festival Đani Šehu told Fena that at one moment they thought the festival would not be held, but its importance was recognized by the Ministry of Culture and Sport of Canton Sarajevo, City Administration of Sarajevo, Sarajevo Music Academy and several Embassies that helped in the arrival of guitarists from their countries.

Professor of guitar at the Music Academy in Sarajevo Aleksandar Sweete made an address, and noted that when he came to Sarajevo in 2005 to teach guitar he did not think that Sarajevo would become in a few years the ‘hop spot’ for guitar in the Balkans.

He wished a warm welcome for around 100 participants from various countries, as well as guitar professionals from the world who will hold workshops during the four days of the festival.

Guitarist Anton Baranov finished his studies in classical guitar in 2010 at the famous state conservatory Rimsky-Korsakov in St. Petersburg, which he attended with a stipend from the Russian Ministry of Culture and Russian Foundation for Art. He is the winner of many awards won at more than 15 international guitar competitions throughout the world.

The festival will last until 14 April, and the sponsor of the festival is the city of Sarajevo, while the organizer is the Association of Guitarists in the FB&H.

This year, guitarists Matthew McAllister, Jure Cekovnik, Boris Tešić and Paco Seco will present themselves to the Sarajevo public.
