Russia’s richest people increased their wealth by more than eight percent in the past year, to a total of $625.5 billion, with at least 146 billionaires listed on the Russian version of Forbes’ list of the richest people in Russia, the magazine said on Thursday.
The number of Russian billionaires has reached a new record, as has their combined wealth, according to the latest rankings by Forbes magazine.
According to the list, 146 Russian citizens are now among the world’s richest people, breaking the previous record of 125 set last year.
Vagit Alekperov, the former head of oil company Lukoil, topped the Forbes list for the second year in a row, with a fortune of $28.7 billion. He resigned as Lukoil’s chairman in 2022 after Britain imposed sanctions on him, Reuters reported.
Alexey Mordashov took second place on the list, with a fortune of $28.6 billion, up from the fourth place he held last year.
Forbes said that there are 15 brand new billionaires on the list, the richest of which is Vikram Punia, originally from India, the owner of the pharmaceutical company Pharmasyntez. According to Forbes, his fortune is $2.1 billion.
