Sanctions against the Serbian Oil Industry postponed again

The United States of America has again postponed sanctions on the Serbian Oil Industry (NIS), this time for 30 days, until July 29, Blic reported. This is the third time that NIS has been postponed.

Last week, NIS submitted a new request to the US Treasury Department for the issuance of a special license that postpones the full implementation of US sanctions, and the goal of the request was to enable the company to continue operating after June 27, i.e. after the expiration of the deadline set by the previous license issued on April 25 this year.

So far, NIS has been issued special licenses by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) at the US Treasury Department on three occasions that postponed the full implementation of sanctions.

NIS, the only company in Serbia engaged in oil exploration, production and refining, as well as natural gas production, was placed on the sanctions list on January 10th of this year due to its stake in the Russian company Gazprom Neft, in order to prevent Russia from using energy revenues for the war in Ukraine.
