The Mayor of Sarajevo, Samir Avdić, is on an official visit to the City of Zagreb, where he met with the Mayor of Zagreb, Tomislav Tomašević.

This is the first meeting between the mayors of the two capitals, which will mark 25 years of friendly and partnership relations in 2026, the Sarajevo City Administration announced.

Avdić and Tomašević expressed satisfaction with the cooperation between Sarajevo and Zagreb to date, emphasizing the importance of raising relations to a higher level, both for the overall bilateral relations of the two countries, and for strengthening regional connectivity and stability.

“It is important that we cooperate as much as possible, support each other, exchange experiences and jointly launch projects and events for the benefit of our citizens,” said Avdić.

The mayors agreed that Sarajevo and Zagreb have significant potential to jointly develop green policies, create joint tourist routes, and create new opportunities for young people through exchanges and projects.

During the meeting, special attention was paid to the exchange of experiences in the use of EU pre-accession funds, as well as future activities within the “100 Climate Neutral Cities” network, of which Sarajevo and Zagreb are also members.

The dynamics of preparations for hosting the Summit of the Balkan Cities Network B40, which will be held in Zagreb and Sarajevo in the coming years, were also discussed.

Finally, Avdić thanked for the welcome and invited the Mayor of Zagreb to visit the capital of BiH soon.

Today’s reception was attended by the Ambassador of BiH to the Republic of Croatia, Elma Kovačević Bajtal.
