Sarajevo Canton Cancels “Warning” Episode

The Ministry of Communal Economy, Infrastructure, Spatial Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection of the Sarajevo Canton canceled the “Warning” episode for the entire area of the Canton due to the improvement of air quality.

Experts state that the occurrence of strong wind, along with the absence of temperature inversion, enabled the dispersion of previously accumulated pollutants. Although yesterday’s measurements at the Sarajevo stations showed high average values of PM₁₀ particles, and at the Otoka station even an excess of nitrogen dioxide, today’s results indicate a significant drop in concentrations.

Currently, a moderate to strong southerly wind is blowing, with a speed of 4 to 12 m/s, which is expected to strengthen during the day, which will contribute to the further cleaning of the Sarajevo basin. The unstable synoptic situation and the announced precipitation for the afternoon and evening hours will further reduce the level of pollutants.

In certain areas, such as Ilijaš, temporary variations in air quality are expected, but ultimately the concentration of pollutants will be significantly lower than in previous days, announced the Protocol and Press Service of Canton Sarajevo.
