The Government of Sarajevo Canton has invested multi-million funds in the Public Institution Institute for Emergency Medical Services of Canton Sarajevo over the last two years. The funds are intended for the reconstruction of the building, procurement of contemporary medical and technical equipment, and strengthening educational capacities.

The building exterior reconstruction, including the roof, facade, and joinery, amounts to two million BAM. An additional two million BAM has been planned for the building interior reconstruction.

The Institute procured key medical devices and vehicles. A new X-ray device worth 250,000 BAM, complete laboratory equipment worth 50,000 BAM, and a portable ultrasound device worth 50,000 BAM have been delivered, meeting the standards for emergency medicine.

The renewal of the vehicle fleet included a total of nine new vehicles, three of which are for hemodialysis and six cardio-ambulance vehicles with full equipment, worth millions in total.

In May 2025, a new power generator worth 58,000 BAM was put into operation, ensuring the uninterrupted functioning of the dispatch center under all conditions, including emergency and crisis situations.

A contemporary call recorder, Registrofon, worth 28,000 BAM, was also procured, which enhances the documentation of communication between dispatchers and citizens, while strengthening transparency and the legal protection of employees.

A total of 70,000 BAM was invested in contemporary educational manikins for BLS, ALS, and chest decompression. Thanks to this equipment, the Institute, as the sole referral center for education in the field of emergency medical services in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, can train medical workers and citizens at the highest level, increasing the chance of survival in sudden cardiac arrest by up to 75 percent.

“The commitment of the Government of Sarajevo Canton and one of our priorities is enhancing medical services for citizens through the procurement of necessary equipment, human resources capacity building, and improving working conditions. I am glad to see how much has been done in the Institute for Emergency Medical Services, which is the result of a joint effort by the Government, the Ministry, and the management of the Institute,” said Nihad Uk, Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton, speaking about the investments and achieved results.

Assessing the effects of the support, Dr. Jasna Huseinbegović-Musić, Director of the Institute, stated that over the past two years, everything necessary has been renovated to ease the work of employees, thereby improving the services that the Emergency Medical Services provide to patients.

“All these procurements were realized with the continuous and indispensable support of the Ministry of Health of Canton Sarajevo. Regardless of the equipment we have, we can do nothing on our own, and today we are both staffed and technically more prepared than ever,” stated Huseinbegović-Musić, as reported by the Press and Protocol Service of Sarajevo Canton.
