At the proposal of the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Youth, the Canton Sarajevo (CS) Government approved the Elaborate on the Justification of the Establishment of the Blum Scientific Research Institute for Computer Science and Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Robotic Systems, and referred it to the parliamentary procedure, CSannounced.

The Government had previously accepted the Final Report of the expert commission on the procedure for checking the orderliness of the Request of Ilirya Tech Group Sarajevo for the establishment of the mentioned institute and providing an expert opinion on the compliance of the Elaboration.

”Taking into account the recognized need to strengthen the scientific research sector in CS, as well as at the level of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), the establishment of the Institute in Sarajevo is extremely important in order to adequately respond to the current technological challenges facing BiH. Through its activities, the Institute will contribute to academic and scientific development and will become an active participant in the economic development of CS, as well as BiH. The patents resulting from the Institute’s research will serve as key drivers in the development of new industries and technologies, thereby strengthening the local economy and opening up new markets,” said Minister Prof. Dr. Adna Mesihovic in the explanation of the Decision on the establishment.

The Blum Research Institute will be an institute for computer science and engineering, artificial intelligence, and autonomous robotic systems. The institute will be dedicated to the reconstruction and progress of BiH in the world of science, engineering, and economy. Inspired by the vision and legacy of Emeric Blum, whose management at Energoinvest, one of BiH‘s largest companies, was a symbol of economic development and excellence, the Institute’s mission will be to continue the tradition of technological innovation and social contribution.

As stated in the Elaborate, the Scientific Research Institute Blum will be dedicated to the reconstruction and progress of BiH in the world of science, engineering, and economy. The establishment of the Institute for Computer Science and Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Robotic Systems is not only a step towards technological evolution, but also a path towards the renewal of the national spirit and inspiration, confirming the ability and right of BiH to reassert itself as an important factor in science, engineering, and economics.

The importance of Al, it is further stated in the announcement of the CS Government, is also recognized by the FBiH, which can be seen in the FBiH Development Strategy for 2021-2027, in which Al is listed as an area of strategic interest, eKapija writes.
