In recent year, a new group of racers have showed up who want to integrate their passion for running with their passion for travelling. In other words we get new tourists, marathon tourists who want to run and to see something, to learn about new cultures, cities, regions, said CMC Agency.
Each year the number of cities that offer marathons and half-marathons is increasing, and the number of competitors is also increasing, not just to participate in the marathon but to remain and see the city as tourists. Talking about this novelty in tourism, Sarajevo is one of the most interesting cities to visit.
With its multi-cultural society and interesting environment, as well as geographical conditions it has plenty to offer, and it is an unavoidable point in the calendar of marathon which are being held in European capitals.

Commenting on that, representative of NGO race of Sarajevo Tomislav Cvitanušić who participated at several marathons said that these sports events have a tradition than spans several decades and they are being held in all modern countries, and more than 30 000 runners participate, which is around 60 000 visits per weekend which makes these projects very efficient in improving image and economic development.
