Sarajevo-Airport-3The capital city of BIH is becoming a bigger attraction for citizens of neighboring countries and in the world. This is evidenced by the data available from the International Airport in Sarajevo, which shows that the number of arrivals to BiH is increasing every year.

In an interview for Anadolija, the Director of the International Airport Sarajevo Ivan Veličan said that in the first five months of 2013 there has been an increase in the number of passengers by 15-20 percent on average in comparison to last year.

“From Sarajevo we have 12 companies that are flying directly to 12 cities, and passengers arrive from all over the world. In the summer period, the most amount of people come from the diaspora from the US, while more business people come from Europe and the Middle East’’, said Veličan.

The number of airline companies has increased by an average of 10-12 percent, and this was mostly contributed by the increase in the number of flights from Turkish airlines, which fly 18 times a week to Sarajevo. There is also Pegasus, which flies 6 times a week for Istanbul, as well as the announcement of the companies Griffon and Kuwait airways, and negotiations with low-cost airlines Wizzair are in the final stages. In the post-war period, there is now the most amounts of airline companies here.

“In comparison to the rest of the airports in the region and the economic crisis, our business continues to be positive. While in some airports, such as Ljubljana, the number of passengers has decreased, we hope that we will continue with our positive business’’, said Veličan.
