Sarajevo marks Victory over Fascism Day and Europe Day

Delegations of various levels of government in Bosnia and Herzegovina today marked May 9 – Victory Day over Fascism and Europe Day by laying flowers and paying tribute at the Eternal Flame memorial.

Among the officials who paid tribute were BiH Presidency member Zeljko Komsic and Federation of BiH Vice Presidents Milan Dunovic and Melika Mahmutbegovic.

“Unfortunately, on this day when Victory Day is over Europe and Europe Day, one gets the impression that in BiH we have never been further from Europe and that we have never been closer to some fascist ideas. On the other hand, I am sure that BiH citizens are both valuable and culturally belong to the European Union and anti-fascist values. However, retrograde policies try to impose some other ideas, try to revive fascism and say that the EU is something we do not need.I absolutely disagree with such assessments.I am sure that BiH’s European path and all anti-fascist values inherited by all citizens and ethnic groups, still win “, said on that occasion the Vice President of the Federation of BiH Milan Dunovic.

The Prime Minister of the Sarajevo Canton, Edin Forto, and the Mayor of Sarajevo, Benjamina Karic, also laid flowers at the Eternal Flame memorial.

On this occasion, the Mayor of Sarajevo, Benjamina Karic, pointed out that it is important to inherit anti-fascist values at this moment.

“Peace, freedom and stability is something we have to fight for every day, so our fight against fascism should last every day. We should take care of our anti-fascist tradition as a child, constantly, carefully and carefully. This is the only thing we can be. A guarantee for a brighter future. Our young generations need to know what the values of anti-fascism are and what our ancestors fought for and what dangers threaten us if we are not persistent and persistent,” Karic said.
