Mayor Samir Avdić received on August 8th, an inaugural visit from H.E. Walid Ahmed Abdelfattah Haggag, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

During the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of strong ties between the two countries and their capitals, particularly in tourism and culture, as a foundation for promoting cultural and historical values – especially those shared by Sarajevo and Cairo.

Ambassador Haggag brought positive news, announcing that the first direct charter flight between the two cities will take place on August 13. The new route is expected to significantly boost tourism during the summer season.

“The city administration fosters international cooperation and close bilateral relations. I thank the ambassador for his sincere interest in this country and its capital. I believe in the friendship of our peoples and am certain it will grow stronger in the coming period,” said Mayor Avdić.

The City of Sarajevo and the City of Cairo signed an Agreement on Cooperation in 2006, followed by a Memorandum of Understanding in 2023. Both parties expressed hopes for future reciprocal visits between the mayors, in the interest of all citizens.

The meeting concluded with Ambassador Haggag congratulating Mayor Avdić on his new term and wishing him success in his work.
