‘Sarajevo Scrapbook Museum’ opened, Memory of the murdered Children of Sarajevo

The museum “Sarajevo Scrapbook” proudly preserves the memory of 1,601 innocent children killed in besieged Sarajevo. That special space, which exudes sadness and loss, through letters, toys, drawings, scrapbooks and clothes, from today will indelibly remind those children who were killed during one of the longest sieges in the history of modern warfare and the longest siege of a capital city ever.

The museum is located at Džidžikovac 3, and it came to life thanks to the Association of Parents of Murdered Children of Besieged Sarajevo. The president of that association, Fikret Grabovica, believes that the setting is specific and special, something that has not been seen before.

He is particularly impressed by the children’s literary and artistic works, which show what they went through during the siege, before they were killed.

“The children wrote strong, conscious and conscientious messages and letters that cannot leave anyone indifferent. Objects such as toys, instruments, clothes and much more are a special story,” he said.

Grabovica points out that it is especially important for parents that students and young people will come to the museum, who will have the opportunity to learn about a part of the history of the 1990s that is not included in school programs.

The management of the Museum fell to the Public Institution “Gradski Muzeji” Sarajevo, and the director Senka Ibrišimbegović said that for now the entrance to the Sarajevo Scrapbook will be free.

Zdravka Gvožđar said that she has been sad since the day she lost her son Eldar, and that today that emotion is much more expressive.

However, she expressed her satisfaction that she finally has a space where, with other parents, she can display memories of her son, Fena news agency writes.
