[wzslider autoplay=”true”]The exhibition “Manuscripts of the Quran” was opened today in the Gazi Husrev – Bey Library in Sarajevo, where it will be set for the next 15 days.

Exhibits from the oriental collection of the Historical Archives of Sarajevo will be presented on the occasion of the International Archives Day.

Authors of the exhibition are Atif Musinovic and Sejdalija Gusic from the Historical Archives of Sarajevo and Haso Popara from Gazi Husrev – Bey Library, who presented similar exhibition 6 years ago.

One of the authors, Haso Popara, explained that the manuscripts that are exhibited are created in the period from the 14th to the 19th century, and they are the work of local authors as well as authors from all around the world, from BiH to Mecca and Medina.

“The oldest Quran on this exhibition, we assume, was made in the late 14th century, because we did not find the note about transcription” said Popara.

He added that the Qur’an which supposedly belonged to the poet Hasan Kaimija was exhibited as well.

Popara said that one of the most valuable collections of the Historical Archives of Sarajevo was presented.

Minister of Culture and Sport of Canton Sarajevo Mirvad Kuric, who opened the exhibition, emphasized the significance of this kind of exhibitions, and emphasized that this is another evidence of the importance of the Historical Archives.

He praised the cooperation between this archive and Gazi Husrev – Bey Library.

International Archives Day, within which this exhibition is set, was marked for the first time on the 9th of June 2008 and the Historical Archives of Sarajevo joined the world of archival community in the celebration of this day in 2011.
