13242246_1184079678309653_1643021938_oSecurity situation in the Sarajevo Canton is good and everything is ready for the tourist season. Security will be further improved with the procurement of more sophisticated equipment for police forces, financed by the Municipality of Stari Grad.

This was stated yesterday at the press conference held on the occasion of the beginning of the tourist season. At the press conference, the Mayor of Stari Grad Municipality Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, Chief of Police Administration Stari Grad Fahrudin Halač and Director of the Tourist Board of the Sarajevo Canton Šemsudin Džeko notified the public about the implemented activities prior to the beginning of the tourist season.

In order to implement measures of protection and saving of people and property at the territory of the municipality, the Stari Grad Municipality formed services for protection and saving and choose the Police Station Stari Grad as a security service. Procurement of necessary equipment is planned with an agreement.

Halač highlighted that 90 percent of the narrow city center is already covered with video surveillance and installation of more sophisticated camera for night time is also planned.

Given that the construction of Trebević Cable Car is launched, Halač said that Trebević is crowded with guests and tourists every weekend and that special attention of the security is on this location.

“According to official statistical data, the Sarajevo Canton is the most frequently visited tourist destination in BiH. In the record-breaking 2015, the Sarajevo Canton had around 350.000 arrivals and 700.000 overnight stays, which is one third of the total number of arrivals and overnight stays in BiH. Among the top ten are guests from Turkey, Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia,” Džeko stated.

Džeko said that tour operators in the region see BiH as a country of rich cultural and historical heritage and that this is the deciding factor for their visit. Speaking of the security, Džeko said that “Sarajevo as a city is no less safe than other European metropolises”.

It was concluded that the tourist season in the Sarajevo Canton will be even more successful this year than it was the last year. Although the most important segment in the tourist offer is safety, the Sarajevo Canton is a safe, peaceful and attractive tourist destination.
