The Minister of Justice of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Davor Bunoza, held a working meeting with the Head of the Delegation of the European Union and the Special Representative of the European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ambassador Johann Sattler.

The meeting discussed the Law on Freedom of Access to Information and amendments to the Law on the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH, as well as the need to improve the proposed laws through amendments in the parliamentary procedure in order to ensure that the legal framework is in accordance with relevant international standards .

The Law on Courts in BiH and the Law on Conflict of Interest were also discussed, and those two laws should be on the agenda of the next session of the Council of Ministers of BiH.

Minister Bunoza informed Ambassador Sattler that he is in intensive communication with the ministers of justice from the entity level in order to harmonize all four laws.

“I am open to all constructive proposals and acceptance of all realistically feasible solutions. My goal is to eliminate all doubts and agree on legal solutions harmonized with the European legal acquis,”  emphasized Minister Bunoz.

Sattler said that the EU Delegation fully supports the efforts of the BiH Ministry of Justice to further improve the proposed legal solutions through amendments and harmonize them with the EU acquis, and that it expects to receive support in the Parliament.

“I think that the next ten to fifteen days is a crucial time for your country, that these laws, harmonized with the EU acquis, are adopted and that BiH, with their implementation, is truly on the European path,” emphasized Sattler.

Sattler also emphasized the importance of refining these laws in order to receive a positive assessment from the European Commission.

The subject of the conversation was the taking over of the Hague criminal records based on the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Justice of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Courts in The Hague, which should be signed soon, the Ministry of Justice of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced.
