Schmidt: Young People should participate more in political Decision-making

The High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt, today presented certificates to the participants of the second cycle of the Diplomacy Summer School organized by the Public Institution “Alija Izetbegović” Museum and  HUB Homework.

This is the second year in which summer school was organized for students of social studies, humanities and political sciences after it was recognized how much young people need it since more than 290 young people from all over BiH applied for this school.

Through this program, the candidates had the opportunity to listen to various topics related to the path to the European Union, and the lecturers were eminent university professors and diplomatic personnel, as well as ambassadors from different countries who shared their experience on techniques and methods in negotiations, communication and developing critical thinking.

Director of Homework HUB Mirza Rastoder said that these are young people who are aware of the importance of knowing about BiH diplomacy for the future and development of society.

In his address to the students, Schmidt said that it is urgently necessary to allow young people to participate more in political decision-making.

“That participation must be more vigorous and not be controlled by political parties, but that there is a structure in which young people would be involved. We work together to reach decisions that will make the country better,” added Schmidt.

Therefore, I call on them to stay in BiH and fight against corruption and nepotism, as well as to ask unpleasant questions to decision-makers in order to get the answers they deserve.

He referred to the election campaign that is currently being conducted in BiH, saying that two key issues were not mentioned in the politicians’ statements, namely what to do to keep young and promising people in the country and what to do to improve the European integration process.

“But if you, the young generation, do not stay in the country, then who will take over its management and what will happen to the country in the next ten years? That’s why it’s important for young people to stay in BiH and that’s why politicians, whoever is elected on Sunday, should ensure that,” concluded Schmidt.
