German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has pledged that Germany will neither send soldiers to Ukraine nor supply it with Taurus cruise missiles at the expense of its own security as long as he is leading the government.

“We are not doing anything that jeopardizes our security, and that is why we are not delivering cruise missiles to Ukraine. This is long-range weaponry that can be used deep inside Russia. And we certainly will not send German soldiers into this war as long as I am Chancellor,” Scholz said in the Bundestag ahead of a confidence vote on his government.

Scholz noted that German citizens are concerned about the situation in Ukraine and reiterated that Germany provides the largest military support to Kyiv in Europe.

During the session, the parliament voted no-confidence in the government, paving the way for early elections on February 23rd.
