Second Round of Indirect US-Iran Talks begins in Rome

The second round of indirect talks between the US and Iran on Tehran’s nuclear program began in the Italian capital Rome today.

Iran’s official IRNA news agency reported that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Rome this morning to lead an Iranian delegation in talks aimed at resolving “the Islamic Republic’s civilian nuclear program and lifting US sanctions against Iran.”

The talks are being hosted by the Omani embassy in Rome, following a first round of talks last week in Muscat, Oman.

US President Donald Trump recently threatened Iran with bombing and additional tariffs if it fails to reach a deal with the US on its nuclear program, drawing sharp reactions from Tehran.

The US and Israel accuse Iran of developing nuclear weapons. Tehran denies this.

Iran has refused to participate in direct talks with the US but has agreed to hold indirect talks mediated by Oman after a recent exchange of letters between the leaders.
