Serbia acquiring Drones and Artillery Systems from Israel: A mysterious Statement by an Israeli Company?

In a recent address, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced the acquisition of new combat systems whose specifications align with a recent statement by an Israeli company regarding a sale to an “unnamed European country.”

According to Serbian media reports, President Vucic recently revealed plans for Serbia to procure a new package of weapons and equipment.

In his speech, Vucic disclosed that Serbia had recently signed agreements for the purchase of highly precise surface-to-surface artillery systems.

“This is the most sophisticated weaponry in the world, with direct communication from the command center via drones to rocket artillery, which immediately targets and destroys everything. Flawlessly. Stronger than HIMARS. So, it’s clear what we are buying,” Vucic stated.

In addition to the new artillery system, Serbia is also acquiring a new drone system, reportedly much more advanced than the current fleet operated by the Serbian Armed Forces.

“We have also procured new, perhaps some of the best drone systems in the world, which are expected to arrive by 2025,” Vucicadded.

Although the manufacturer of these drones was not specified, a statement by the company Elbit Systems, one of Israel’s leading defense companies, appears suggestive. Recently, the company announced that it had signed contracts worth 335 million dollarswith an “unnamed European country” for the procurement of the PULS surface-to-surface rocket system and Hermes 900 unmanned combat aerial vehicles.

While there is no official confirmation that these systems will come from Israel or that these are the ones President Vucic referred to, the coincidence and timing are highly suggestive.

On the other hand, Israeli-Serbian relations are at a very high level, as evidenced by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent visit to Belgrade.

Relations between Tel Aviv and Belgrade have grown particularly close since the outbreak of war in Gaza and Lebanon, during which arms exports from Serbia to Israel have sharply increased.
