Serbia has lost Half a Million Inhabitants in 13 Years

From 2012 to the end of 2024, Serbia lost 543.567 inhabitants due to negative natural population growth.

According to data from the Republic Statistical Office, during this period, there were 830.177 live births, while 1.374.745 people passed away.

The highest mortality rate was recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic when a total of 253.473 people died in 2020 and 2021.

According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), Serbia had the highest number of deaths relative to population size after Bulgaria during the pandemic.

Last year, the lowest number of live births was also recorded – 60.311.
