bih srbija zastaveThe Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will offer in the next few weeks to countries in the region the establishment of joint missions abroad in order to reduce costs of diplomatic networks.

Serbia has already established networks with Skopje, Podgorica, Sarajevo, as well as Ljubljana on possible joint diplomatic outposts in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

This year, Serbia plans to open three embassies in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Ghana and five diplomatic offices in Venezuela, Chile, Peru, Vietnam and Cambodia, and it is at these destinations that it could operate within the ‘Scandinavian model’, said Novosti.

The Head of Diplomacy Ivan Mrkić said that an agreement could be reached by the end of the year.

‘’We are closes to an agreement with Macedonia and Montenegro. We will continue with our plan to spread the DKP network, but we will offer everyone who is interested to join. This would, on the one hand, reduce costs, and would allow countries in the region to be more visible in many parts of the world, as well as easier entry into third markets’’, said Mrkić.

He recalled that the ‘Scandinavian model’ showed to be very successful and cited the example of Tokyo, where in one building there are diplomats from more than 15 countries in Latin America.
