Significant Increase in Tourist Arrivals to Sarajevo last Year

According to preliminary results, 667,373 tourists visited Canton Sarajevo last year, which is 17.03 percent more than in 2018.

A total of 1,308,382 overnight stays were recorded last year, which is 17.65 percent more than in the previous year.

According to the Institute for Informatics and Statistics of Sarajevo Canton, out of the total number, there were 89,874 domestic tourists and 577,499 foreign guests.

The largest number of foreign tourists came from the China (63,606), followed by Croatia 59,139, Saudi Arabia 47,530 and Turkey 46,938.

The Canton of Sarajevo was also visited by 26,764 tourists from Slovenia, 26,150 from the United Arab Emirates, 25,501 from Serbia, 23,560 from Germany, the USA 23,479, Italy 16,670 and Austria 12,035 tourists.

Only in May, Sarajevo was visited by 56,499 tourists who realized 91,606 overnight stays. The report states that the total number of foreigners in May was 50,190, and 6,309 domestic tourists.

In the first five months of this year, the number of tourists in Sarajevo Canton increased by 9.8 percent year-on-year, while the number of overnight stays increased by 10.9 percent year-on-year.

The largest number of tourists who visited Sarajevo was from China, 9,684, Croatia 3,535, Slovenia 3,125, the United States 3,017 and Germany 2,826.

In May, Sarajevo was visited by tourists from more than 60 countries. Tourism in BiH is a fast-growing sector and an important part of the country’s economy. In recent years, BiH has seen stable growth in the number of foreign tourists.
