SIPA arrested three Persons for War Crimes in Srebrenica

SIPA Arrests krupljani.baActing on the orders of the Prosecutor’s Office of B&H, police officers of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) this morning (January 4, 2016) in the Foča area apprehended three persons for war crimes: Izeta Arifović “Ćiza”, Suad Smajlović “Šošon” and Amir Salihović “Arkan”.

Mentioned persons are under investigation for acting contrary to the provisions of international humanitarian law and Geneva conventions on protection of civil persons during war as members of the Army of RB&H, at the territory of Srebrenica.

Charges are as follows: on July 12, 1992, during the attack on Zalazje village, after which a group of eight civilians of Serb nationality, with tied hands and who surrendered earlier, together with four dead bodies, was brought on a truck to the police station in Srebrenica where the suspect Izet Arifović killed one civilian of Serb nationality by firing from firearms at close range, while the suspect Salihović took the remaining captives on a truck to unknown direction, after which they have never been seen alive again. After the war, remains of some of the victims were found and exhumed and it is still being searched for other remains.

Izet Arifović is charged with killing two civilians of Serb nationality by firing an automatic rifle at close range, after the truck has arrived at the police station in Srebrenica. After their bodies were loaded on the truck, noticing that one of the victims still gives signs of life Salihović shot a burst and thus they killed two captured civilians.

Izet Arifović is also charged with killing the civilian of Serb nationality Prodanović Živan on June 21, 1992 in Ratkovići. Prodanović earlier handed over the weapons and sat with his hands tied, after which the suspect approached him, ordered him to stand up and killed him by firing a firearms.

Suspect Smajlović is charged with firing a burst over bodies of the killed civilians and alive civilians on the truck where they were loaded, on July 12, 1992.

Among the captured civilians of Serb nationality were Simić Branko, Simić Petko, Rakić Miodrag, Tubić Miladin, Cvjetinović Ivan, Gligić Nedeljko, Jeremić Marko, Gligorić Ljubiša and Vujadinović Dragomir.

Suspects are under investigation and charged with committing criminal offense – war crime against civil population.
