Six leaders from the region of Western Balkans supported the Multi-Annual Action Plan for Regional Economic Space in the Western Balkans (MAP) at the Summit in Trieste.

The MAP was designed with the aim to provide an uninterrupted flow of goods, services, capital and qualified labor force, which will make this region more attractive for investments and trade and accelerate the approach to the EU, and thus bring prosperity to citizens of the Western Balkans.

The MAP provides measures that will help the private sector to succeed on the market of 20 million people and redirect the model of growth to regional, with long-term drivers.

The Secretariat of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) got the task to regularly inform all summits in the framework of the Berlin Process on the progress made in the implementation of the measures established by the MAP.

Secretary General of RCC Goran Svilanovic noted that six leaders from the Western Balkans expressed their full commitment to the implementation of the MAP, which will give a significant boost to the process of the EU accession on the basis of individual merit, and it will also accelerate the fulfillment of economic criteria from Copenhagen and release of large economic potentials.

Svilanovic explained that the MAP is derived from the commitments under the Strategy of Southeastern Europe 2020 and the Central European Free Trade Agreement, and it is based on the rules and principles of the EU from the Stabilization and Association Agreement.
