Agriculture Fair in Jablanica hms.baWithin the support of agricultural production in the region Birac, US humanitarian and development agency of the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) enabled the participation of local companies and cooperatives from this region at the Fruit Logistica Fair in Berlin, which is taking place from the 7th to 11th of February. Six companies and cooperatives from the region Birac went to Berlin, including Hana Srebrenica, Regional Advisory Service (RSSB), MB Fruits and Agros DS from Bratunac, and Smrcak and Galja from Zvornik.

The aim is a presentation of local companies and cooperatives to potential buyers of agricultural products, their introduction to the global market trends, linking to particular value chains of agricultural products and requirements that need to be met in order to become part of the global market.

Fair Fruit Logistica is the largest and most important fair of fresh fruits and vegetables, where buyers from the EU represent their mission and plans, as well as an excellent opportunity for our companies and cooperatives to link with them. Also, the collaborator on project, development center Agronet Banja Luka, will professionally lead bilateral meetings of our participants with their potential customers. Earlier, in late January, the participants of the fair from our country are educated about ways how to be more successful at the fair and created the profiles of their companies in the online database of the fair.

The CRS has recognized the potential in the field of agriculture in the region Birac for the development of more efficient projects, with a focus on the development of two of the value chain, for raspberries and gherkins. These projects will contribute to greater and more efficient production of these two cultures in less developed rural areas of the region Birac, through solving the key problems, such as inadequate and unsustainable production methods that are preventing many families to produce sufficient yields and provide their income for life.

The abovementioned participation of local companies and cooperatives at the fair is one of the links in the value chain, which is the method applied by the CRS in the project in order to ensure efficient agricultural production – from sowing to purchase.
