This project was realized by students of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Sarajevo, members of the Association of students and electrical engineers of IEEE BS.

“This is a metal structure that resembles on a tree, with the height of 4.5 meters, on whose top are placed 10 solar panels. The power of each plate is 80 W, so the total installed capacity of autonomous photovoltaic system is 800 W, “explained Almedin Kavaz, president of the Association and the project manager.

The realization of this project was approved by the Ministry of Spatial Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection of Canton Sarajevo, at the beginning of 2015 as part of the public invitation for selection of beneficiaries of funds of the Federal Environmental Fund, which is remitted to the Sarajevo Canton for the realization of projects in the field of environmental protection. The total value of the project amounted to 22,754.61 BAM, out of which, the Ministry has approved funds in total of 18,203.79 BAM, while the remaining assets were provided by the Association of students and electrical engineers.

Solar tree also serves as public lighting, because energy-saving LED bulbs in different colors are installed on it, which are glowing in the dark.

The Minister of Spatial Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection of Canton Sarajevo, Cedomir Lukic said that the project of the construction and installation of the solar tree is one way of promoting the use of environmentally friendly renewable energy sources in Canton Sarajevo and entire BiH.

“I am sure that this will lead to raising awareness of the society, in terms of environmental protection, the importance of using such energy from the aspect of environmental protection and especially the air as its constituent part. The development and use of renewable energy sources contribute in the long run, among other things, to diversification of energy production, increase of competitiveness, creating new work places, stimulating the development of new technologies as well as the local economy, “said minister Lukic.
