After five decades since the last solo exhibition of works by our eminent artist, Mersad Berber, was set up in Sarajevo, his most important works will be decorating the renovated Sarajevo City Hall from July 6.
Since these works belong to one of the most important artists of BiH in the second half of the 20th century, this event has been rated as the most important cultural event this year.
Works done in the honor of Velazquez will be exhibited, as well as animated film “Tempo Secondo”, works from the cycle “Jelena, the Woman of My Dream,” from the cycle “Skender-Vakuf” and the cycle “Srebrenica” as well as the last opus of his self-portraits.
“This exhibition cannot be put into the same basket with all the other exhibitions because Sarajevo is our city where we spent the most of our time. It is the city where my father gained his affirmation, where he lived and worked, and thus this exhibition is different from all other exhibitions,” said Ensar Berber, son of the artist.
An inevitable ingredient of almost all works done by this great artist was love for his homeland – BiH, and after the tragic 1990’s, Berber tried to transfer the death of multiculturalism in the Balkans on his canvas, and he reached his artistic peak through this stage of artistic creation.
His works were exhibited in London, Hamburg, Istanbul, Chicago, Abu Dhabi, Moscow, Madrid, Cyrus and New York. The last big exhibition before his death was held in 2009 in Barneson, and it represented a great retrospective that covered his entire life span.
