Sevilla defender Emir Spahić is poised to join Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala on loan until the end of the season with a view to a permanent deal.

The BiH international, who spent previous spells in Russia with Lokomotiv Moscow and Torpedo Moscow, moved to the Primera Division side from Montpellier in August 2011.

The two clubs have reached an agreement for the centre-back to join the big-spending side and he is currently heading to Moscow to finalise the proposed move.

A statement on Sevilla’s official website on Tuesday read: “Emir Spahić left Sevilla FC’s training camp in Cartaya this afternoon to travel to Moscow.

“The player now has to agree his contract with officials at Anzhi, who have until Wednesday to register him for the league.”
