Spain Bans Arms Shipments To Israel

Spain has announced a series of comprehensive measures aimed at increasing pressure on Israel over its ongoing war in Gaza, including a ban on arms shipments to Israel through Spanish ports and airspace.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced this during yesterday’s televised address, further cementing Madrid’s break with the pro-Israeli stance adopted by most European governments.

“We will ban ships carrying weapons for Israel from docking in Spanish ports and ban planes carrying weapons for Israel from using Spanish airspace,” Sanchez said.

He also added:

“We will also increase our support for the Palestinian Authority and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and impose an embargo on products originating from illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.”

Perhaps most significantly, the Spanish government will also ban the entry of persons directly involved in what Sanchez explicitly described as “genocide.”

“We hope that the measures will serve to increase pressure on Prime Minister Netanyahu and his government to alleviate some of the suffering endured by the Palestinian population,” stated the Prime Minister of Spain.
