A week after falling at the Dakar Rally, a forty-five years old Spanish motorcyclist Karles Falcon died of injuries, his team announced today.

Falkon died on January 8 at the end of the second stage when he injured his head during a fall. After the impact, he lost his pulse and had to be resuscitated.

After he was stabilized, he was airlifted to a hospital in Riyadh where he remained in intensive care in an induced coma until he was flown back to Spain three days ago, still in a critical condition. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries on Monday, according to agencies.

“Carles has left us. The medical team has confirmed that the neurological damage caused by the cardiorespiratory arrest at the time of the accident is irreversible,” it was announced on Instagram.

“Carles was a smiling person, always active, who passionately enjoyed everything he did, especially motorcycles. He left us doing something that was his dream, racing in the Dakar,” it added.

This was the Catalan’s second appearance at the rally after he also appeared in 2022. He was a computer engineer, but also a motorcycle instructor and motorcycle guide out of passion.

“He taught with patience, energy and happiness, he made everyone enjoy the motorcycle. That’s what he left us and will always be held by all of us who were close to him.”
