Spanish MFA: Unconstitutional Actions of RS Authorities Threaten BiH’s Stability and Territorial Integrity

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain condemned the recent actions of the authorities of Republika Srpska (RS), stating that they call into question the territorial integrity and stability of the country.

“The recent actions of the authorities of RS are contrary to the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and call into question the territorial integrity and stability of the country, which are of fundamental importance for the entire Western Balkans region. We call for full respect for the institutions of BiHand the judicial decisions of the Constitutional Court made on Friday. We urge all political actors to de-escalate tensions and return to dialogue for the benefit of all citizens of BiH,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain stated in a press release.

At the end of February, the National Assembly of RS (NARS) adopted a set of laws banning the operation of the Court and Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA), and the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC) of BiH on the territory of this BiH entity, which were signed a few days ago by RS President Milorad Dodik.

However, on Friday, the Constitutional Court of BiH temporarily suspended the laws.

The actions of the RS authorities have been condemned by numerous European countries as well as the United States (U.S.).
