By lowering the white Srebrenica flower into the Sana River and carrying a thirty-meter-long Palestinian flag, members of the Extreme Sports Club “Condor” from Prijedor paid tribute to the victims of the Srebrenica genocide and sent a strong message of solidarity with the people of Gaza.
As stated by the club, the symbolic laying of the flower in the water represents a remembrance of 30 years since the genocide against Bosniaks in the UN protected zone – Srebrenica. At the same time, the long Palestinian flag expresses support for the residents of the Gaza Strip, who, as stated by the club, are still facing violence and injustice today.
“We placed the Srebrenica flower in the Sana River, may it wait for us and proudly tell the story of our Podrinje region. The Palestinian flag is a symbol of global injustice and a symbol of the suffering of that people. Its 30 meters also symbolize the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide,” emphasized Edin Seferović, president of the KES “Condor”.
This year, 35 members of the club will participate in the traditional Peace March that leads from Nezuk to Potočari, the path along which Bosniaks from Srebrenica tried to break through to free territory in 1995.
The KES “Condor” says that with their activities they want to maintain the culture of remembrance, convey the truth about the genocide to new generations, but also point out the global injustices that still persist today.
