12735892_1106542266063395_344457812_nThe Stari Grad Municipality Sarajevo is to begin the construction of several sports facilities in this year. These facilities are expected to significantly contribute to the popularization and rising of the sports in the old part of Sarajevo to a whole another level.

According to the Mayor Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, the Municipality will finance the construction of two multipurpose sports halls and a football stadium at the locality of the former barracks in Faletići.

Hadžibajrić highlighted that the publishing of a tender for the construction of a sports hall next to the elementary school “Mula Mustafa Bašeskija”, whose construction will amount to between 550,000 and 600,000 BAM, is currently in progress.

Another hall is planned to be constructed, on Bistrik, within the elementary school “Edhem Mulabdić”, whose construction will be financed by the means allocated from the Saudi Fund. The construction will begin when the funds become operational.

“The mentioned halls are multifunctional because we want to cover as many sports and sports activities as possible. These halls will certainly be used to the maximum. The most important thing is that we already have completed projects for all facilities, thus it is not about ideas only anymore. Detailed designs have also been made, based on which we applied to the Saudi Fund,” Hadžibajrić explained.

Speaking of the football stadium that is to be built in Faletići, Hadžibajrić says:

“There are five football collectives at the territory of our municipality: Mošćanica, Iskra, Hrid, Vrbanjuša and Vratnik. These clubs have always been renting the extra field of the Koševo stadium. The idea on the construction of a stadium and a sports-recreational center has been living since 1997, when a center that FIFA wanted to finance was supposed to be built on Pašino brdo. This project was nearly completed but, due to disagreements in the Canton, the funds were redirected to Široki Brijeg, where a football center was constructed”.

Hadžibajrić highlighted that the stadium in Faletići will not be of the kind that FIFA wanted to finance, but that it will certainly meet the needs of municipal clubs.
