The US State Department confirmed that the lifting of sanctions against SNSD President Milorad Dodik, his family, associates, and numerous legal entities is part of the regular review of sanctions that the United States is conducting in relation to the Western Balkans.

“The constructive actions taken by the National Assembly of Republika Srpska in recent weeks should improve the stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina and enable a partnership with the United States based on shared interests, economic potential, and shared prosperity,” the State Department told Detektor.
They added that they will “continue to work closely with political actors in BiH to advance shared priorities.”

As a reminder, the US Department of Treasury and Treasury (OFAC) has lifted sanctions on several individuals and companies from Republika Srpska, including Milorad Dodik, Željka Cvijanović, members of Dodik’s family, ministers from RS, and their companies such as Alternativa Televizija, Prointer, and UNA Televizija. The sanctions were initially imposed for activities that violated the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, including the organization and promotion of the unconstitutional “RS Day”.

Unofficial sources state that the lifting of sanctions is part of an agreement between the US and Dodik, according to which, after the final verdict, Dodik will leave the post of President of RS, while America will gradually lift sanctions on his associates.
