The US State Department announced the adoption of a law suspending the implementation of the decisions of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the territory of the Republika Srpska, stressing that such a decision by the National Assembly of the Republika Srpska threatens the rule of law and stability in the country and represents a “dangerous escalation of secessionist threats.”
“This week, the National Assembly of the Republika Srpska adopted a law canceling the competences of the Constitutional Court in the entity. This law violates the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina and is against the Dayton Peace Agreement. Defiance of the Constitutional Court threatens not only the rule of law but also the stability, security and prosperity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Combined with the anti-Dayton rhetoric of some leaders of Republika Srpska, the law represents a dangerous escalation of secessionist threats,” the State Department said in a statement on its website.
They point out that the United States of America strongly supports the territorial integrity, sovereignty and multi-ethnic character of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“We will continue to hold individuals involved in activities contrary to the Dayton Peace Agreement accountable for their actions,” it added.
