Census Results bhrt.baCensus of population in BiH from 2013 in the upcoming period will allow analysts, statisticians and demographers diversity in research, considering that is very different from the one from 1991, and particularly interesting is ethnic commitment of people from BiH.

Very interesting is the fact that, at the census of population that was held 3 years ago, a total of 173,764 citizens stated that they speak Bosnian language in the RS, while on the other side, only 43,845 people said that they speak Serbian language in the FBiH.

When comparing the figures, according to the statisticians, not only Bosniaks declared to speak Bosnian. Taking into account more specific data, for example on the area of municipalities, especially from parts of central Bosnia and other surrounding areas, citizens stated Bosnian language as the language they speak. Also, one part of the Orthodox citizens stated that they speak Bosnian language as well.

The situation was significantly different 22 years ago, on the census in 1991, with regard to the then dominant use of the Serbo-Croatian language. Then, 1,631,991 people spoke Bosnian language, 1,160,962 Serbo-Croatian language, 824,871 Serbian language, 588,099 Croatian language, 61,165 Croatian-Serbian language and 11,575 citizens spoke Yugoslav language.

Despite the fact that Serbo-Croatian language still existed in 1991, Bosnian language was dominant on the census that was held back then. Data show that more than a million citizens or 37.51 % spoke Bosnian language.

Given the fact that on the territory of the RS predominantly live Serbs, then it is not surprising that about 85 % of citizens speak Serbian language. It should be also noted that about 3 % of the population of the RS speak Croatian language.
