Stoke chairman Peter Coates will not stand in Asmir Begović’s way if a suitable offer is received, but has warned potential suitors that the goalkeeper will not come cheaply.

The 25-year-old has been in impressive form this season, reportedly attracting interest from the likes of Liverpool.

Coates does not want to sell the Bosnia and Herzegovina international, with chief executive Tony Scholes recently rubbishing talk of an exit, but the chairman has admitted he will not prevent Begović from joining a bigger club.

“Asmir is a super professional player,” Coates told Sky Sports. “We like him very much. He is a top, top goalkeeper. I think he is as good as anybody in the Premier League.

“But he is also ambitious. If top clubs come for your players, I do not think you can deny them the opportunity. That is my view.

“But it would depend very much on the money being right. We are not looking to sell him. We are not expecting to sell him. We expect him to be our goalkeeper next season.”

The 25-year-old featured in all 38 Premier League games for Stoke, conceding 45 goals as the Potters flirted with relegation in the second half of the campaign.
