Western Balkans Regional Platform for advocating media freedom and journalists’ safety“, which represents more than 7800 members, strongly condemns all calls for violence and hate speech towards Adisa Imamovic, a journalist and reporter of N1 television and Amir Zukic, program editor and manager of this TV, which appeared on a certain Facebook page called “BOSNJACI”.
After the news of a boy crying and praying for food on an iftar that was organized in Konjevic Polje, calls for endangering the safety of the staff of N1 television followed, as well as calls for destruction of their property and death threats that were followed by hate speech on a national and religious basis.
The Platform requests an urgent and detailed investigation of all facts related to threats to journalists of N1 television, as well as all other cases of violation of the right to freedom of expression, in letters that will be sent to the relevant institutions in BiH, and the Platform also invited them to prevent any form of violence against journalists as “socially unacceptable behavior”.
Western Balkans Regional Platform for advocating media freedom and journalists’ safety will report this case to the Platform of the Council of Europe to promote the protection of journalism and safety of journalists as well.
This attack on journalists represents a direct attack on the freedom of expression and the right of citizens to be informed.
Every attack on journalists also represents an attack on public interest, democracy, and rights of all citizens.
This is a platform that gathers associations of BH journalists, Media Union of Montenegro, Journalists Association of Croatia, Kosovo Journalists Association, Independent Association of Journalists of Serbia and Journalist Association of Macedonia.
