High school students from Bosnia and Herzegovina will on Wednesday fly to the United States for three weeks where they will have the opportunity to develop their skills on leadership and activism in society.
Youth Leadership Project is funded by the US Government, and a part of it are projects in Pittsburgh and Washington DC where 18 high school students and three professors from Stolac, Doboj and Zenica will participate in an educational seminar.
In an interview with Klix.ba English teacher from Zenica, Dženis Imširović said that this is an excellent opportunity for young people to learn about the system of leadership in big states.
“We will visit the United States as ambassadors of our country and our goal is, except to learn new things, to present Bosnia and Herzegovina and our educational and legal system as best as possible. During this visit to America we will improve our leadership skills and learn how to deal with changes in our society, with the emphasis on activism” said Imširović.
The visit to the United States includes exploring the culture and sights of Pittsburgh and Washington, as well as training on leadership, activism, joint action and visiting the State Department.
Imširović added that this project is implemented for many years in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that there are many projects funded by the United States, but the public is just not interested.
“There are really a lot of projects organized by the Government of the United States, but we express so much passivity in terms of engagement for applying because we always think that we don’t have a chance,” adds Imširović.
However, the interest of the high school students to visit the United States has been enormous, only in Zenica more than 150 students applied, while only six were elected, and it’s the same in Stolac and Doboj.
“We need more projects like this in our society because, it really gives a chance to those who work hard to contribute to a better world, and not the ones who are used to live off someone’s budget” concludes Dženis.
High school students will travel from their cities to Sarajevo, and their flight to the USA is planned for Wednesday . The students will return to BiH on April 23.
