Students from BiH won Gold, Silver and Bronze at the Mathematical Olympiad in Shanghai

The team from Bosnia and Herzegovina won gold, two silvers, a bronze and two honorable mentions at the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad in Shanghai. In the competition of 117 countries, Bosnia and Herzegovina took 32nd place, ahead of Romania, Canada and other countries. This is the sixth year in a row that students from BiH are among the 40 best in the world.

The gold medal was won by Vuk Janković, his third gold medal at the IMO. Vuk finished the third grade and can compete next year as well. Silver was won by Andrej Krčmar and Adnan Osmić. Andrej ended his career at the IMO with one gold and three silver medals – he is the second most successful competitor in the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Osmić repeated last year’s success and is now fourth on the all-time list. The bronze was won by Harun Memić, the youngest member of the team, who was only one point away from the silver. Praise went to Anja Tešević and Amila Pašić; Anja was missing only one point for bronze.

Team first place went to China, ahead of the USA and Russia. Of the countries in the region, Serbia is 31st, and Croatia is 48th.

All six students are participants of the Mathematics School for gifted students and mathematics camps. The team leaders in Shanghai were Amar Kurić and Tijana Babić.

From the Association of Mathematicians of KS, which organizes preparations and camps for young talents, gratitude was sent to the institutions that made the trip to Shanghai possible, namely the Ministry of Education of the Sarajevo Canton, the Republic Pedagogical Institute of the RS, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Tuzla Canton and the Prime Minister of the KS, announced the Service for Protocol and Public Relations of the KS.
