Sarajevo Canton Minister for Veterans Affairs Ismir Jusko joined on Friday the second memorial march “1,601 Flower”, involving nearly 200 students from six primary and secondary schools who planted 1,601 roses in 2018 to commemorate the children killed during the siege of Sarajevo.
The memorial march was organized by the Association of Ecologists “Arboretum”, with the support of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Sarajevo Canton.
Minister Jusko welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of nurturing the memory of the children killed during the 1992-1995 siege of Sarajevo.
“How many future doctors, engineers, craftsmen, athletes were among the murdered children of Sarajevo, who were brutally deprived of the opportunity to pursue their dreams? So we must remember and hope that it will never happen again to anyone. Dear children, you must know that these children were killed in the classrooms together with their teachers,” Minister Jusko said.
“Thanks to the many casualties during the aggression, we live in peace and freedom today. Take advantage of this, learn and do your best to become good people and experts in various fields. To you and your parents, I wish you all the best in life,” Minister Jusko added.
He thanked the organizers of the memorial campaign and said that he had initiated an initiative to plant 11,508 tree seedlings at the site to be provided by the Government of the Sarajevo Canton, News Agency Patria reports.
