The Croatian Parliament today passed the Law on Exceptional Price Control Measures by a majority of MPs, which, by publishing prices on websites, should protect citizens’ standards from inflation and ensure a rapid response to market disruptions.
According to this law, retailers will be obliged to regularly publish and update the prices of all their products on their websites and to provide unhindered access to digital tools that will provide customers with the ability to compare prices in real time.
In addition to the current retail price, every retailer will have to clearly indicate the previous retail price of a product from a certain period or on a specific day. This will make it easier to monitor price changes and provide transparent information to consumers.
The law, which enters into force on the first day of its publication in the Official Gazette, also prescribes price limits for key products and services, as well as clear labeling of products with a limited price.
This means that the retailer must display visual signs on products whose prices are regulated, and in stores with over 400 square meters, to provide special sales areas for these products.
For non-compliance with the Law, retailers face fines of 3,000 to 30,000 euros, and the law also provides for the confiscation of property gains obtained through the violation, HRT reports.
