medTraditional manifestation of “Days of Honey” in Semberija brought together 13 exhibitors from RS and Federation – Bijeljina, Brčko, Gradiska Derventa, Tuzla, Petrov, Pilica and Ozren.

The event is organized for the 9th consecutive year within the “Pantelin ceremony” and has a selling character, and provides an opportunity for beekeepers to show what can all domestic beekeeping offer.

Beekeepers have agreed that comparing to the previous year, the production of honey this year is slightly better because the weather conditions were more favorable than last year.

They state that the average honey per hive is about 25 kilogram.

The regular exhibitors at this event Milorad and Jovanka Tešić from Bijeljina have 70 hives along Modran River, and they are engaged in beekeeping for about 28 years.

Miloš Lučić from Šamac is engaged in beekeeping for 40 years, and owns 115 hives.

“Work is hard, but there is profit”, said Lučić.

Nebojša Andrić from Petrov with beekeeping works for thirty years and has around 300 hives. He is pleased with this year’s work because, as he said, the spring was good for beekeepers and acacia yield was about 20 kilogram per hive.

The organizer of the event “Days of Honey” is the Organization of Beekeepers Semberija which has 236 members with about 10.000 hives. The number of those who have five to six hives is much higher, but there are no records of it.
