The head of the Department for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Interior of Serbia, Luka Čaušić, said that there were hundreds of young people on the raft “Kartel” on the Sava Quay in Belgrade at the moment it began to sink, and that members of this department evacuated 114 people.

It was initially announced that 30 people were evacuated, but Čaušić later announced that a total of 114 people were evacuated, according to RTS.

“The most important thing is that there are no injured or dead persons in this event, that is, there are no victims among young people who were mostly guests,” said Čaušić.

The ambulance took care of 10 minors, while two were transported to the VMA due to increase level of alcohol.

When the “Kartel” raft began to sink around half an hour after midnight, many panicked and jumped into the water to swim to shore.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that there are indications that there was a fight before the raft began to sink, but that the investigation will establish all the details.

“Accordingly, all legal measures will be taken,” said Čaušić and added that in the coming days it will be known how the raft sank.
