One person was arrested on Friday morning on suspicion of setting fire to an official vehicle of the City of Mostar, confirmed to the portal Bljesak.info by the spokesperson of the HNK MUP Ilijana Miloš. The arrest followed an intensive investigation launched in the middle of the week.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning, when an official vehicle parked in front of the family home of the Mostar mayor was set on fire. According to available information, the fire caused material damage, and the case was immediately reported to the police, who launched a criminal investigation.

Kordić: “Organized creation of a hate narrative”
The Mayor of Mostar, Mario Kordić, spoke out after the attack, saying that the fire was a consequence of the atmosphere that has been created in the city recently.

“We are witnessing the organized creation of a hate narrative and attacks on my work just because we protect the interests of the City of Mostar. Such a narrative has its consequences, and this event clearly shows what the goal of those who instigate it is,” Kordić said in a message to the public.

The President of the Mostar City Council, Đani Rahimić, also reacted to the incident, stressing that it is a serious security problem that requires urgent action by the competent institutions.

“Unfortunately, we have witnessed yet another incident that represents a serious blow to security, public order and social stability. This year, more than 40 car arson attacks have been recorded in Mostar, which clearly shows that we must do more to protect people and their property,” Rahimić said on his Facebook profile.

The police did not provide details about the identity of the arrested person, nor about the motives for the attack. The HNK Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that the criminal investigation is continuing, and that more information will be known after the completion of the investigative actions.
