The war in BiH during the 1990’s forced thousands of people to leave their homeland. More than 80,000 immigrated to Sweden. Back then, many Swedes were skeptic due to the large number of refugees from our country, but today, 20 years after their arrival, Bosnians and Herzegovinians are found to be the most integrated group of immigrants in Sweden.

Many researchers have demonstrated that 85 percent of Bosnians and Herzegovinians are permanently employed after only 4 or 5 years of living in Sweden.

Jan Ekberg, an economist and researcher, says that there are more reasons that account for the successful integration of Bosnians and Herzegovinians in Swedish society.

‘’What is most important is that they are coming from European countries where the education system is very similar to Western European countries’’, says Ekberg.

It was said on Swedish Television TV4 that out of all the immigrants that in Swedish universities, the most number are Bosnians and Herzegovinians.

Sweden expects this year a huge influx of refugees, but this time the most number will arrive from Syria.
