Tais: Essential Action Plan to Reduce Particulate Matter in Sarajevo

It is necessary to create an Action Plan for the reduction of particulate matter in the air in the Canton Sarajevo area, said Martin Tais, an expert for air quality and climate change for FENA on the occasion of tomorrow’s presentation for suggestions for the Action Plan.

The Ministry of Physical Planning and Environment of Canton Sarajevo prepared the suggestion for an Action Plan in cooperation with the Center for Technological, Economic and Environmental Development in Sarajevo (CETEOR).

‘’Tomorrow there will be a panel discussion on this issue. We have lots of material but we have a lot of things that must be added and discussed tomorrow’’, said Martin Tais, who will participate in tomorrow’s official presentation of the Action Plan.

He stressed that what is written in the Plan is a good basis for discussion and every action in order to solve the problem of air pollution is welcome.

He said that the biggest problem of air quality is due to fine particles and sulfur dioxide increases, which also causes air pollution.

‘’The specific problem of winter in Sarajevo is when we have temperature inversions, when the capacity of Sarajevo’s valley is limited and everything that we expend is piled up there. That is when pollution increases’’, said Tais and added that the problem of pollution occurs not only in winter, but also occurs when the weather is warmer.
