Take a look at how the First President’s House in Sarajevo looks like (Video)

The team of the show “You are in the program” by BHT1 had a chance to visit a house in Sarajevo where the first President of the Republic of BiH and the post-war member of the Presidency of BiH Alija Izetbegovic spent his last years. The recorded material confirmed that Alija lived a modest life, unlike the majority of politicians today.

The host was the son of Alija Izetbegovic, today’s member of the Presidency of BiH, Bakir Izetbegovic, who said that he had a chance to talk about his thoughts during the last ten years of his father’s life, he had the opportunity to hear his lessons and advice, which he carefully conveyed.

He talked about his father as a man of peace, and although he was forced to lead the war for the survival of the country, he did everything possible to prevent the war and later, to stop the war.

“There is something that was not noted. During the war, he did everything to stop the crimes. Of course, this applies to all peoples, but here, in Sarajevo, this particularly referred to Serbs. We had some painful internal conflicts to stop the revenge because there is no end when that starts,” said Bakir Izetbegovic.

The house where Alija Izetbegovic lived until his death has a large garden and, according to his son, is the best part of the house. He planted a lot of trees himself in order to enable his father to enjoy it after the war, that he mostly spent indoors.

He also showed the phone, which is now in the house, and which, together with President Alija Izetbegovic, traveled through almost entire BiH, tens of thousands of kilometers during the war, but it was only used twice in extremely exceptional situations. The only more famous phone than that one, according to Bakir Izetbegovic, is the phone in the Presidency, which was placed in front of the office of Alija Izetbegovic. That phone served to hundreds of ordinary people to contact their families abroad.

The message that Bakir Izetbegovic sent at the 14th anniversary of his father’s death, especially for young people, is that they must keep the peace.

“The only limit is the territorial integrity of the country. There is nothing below that. Everything else, like whether it is better this way, are just empty stories. It is better to have a few political issues, problems and unresolved things for 22 years since the Dayton, rather than to fight in a war for 22 days,” stated Bakir Izetbegovic.
